This beautiful and inspiring book by Grace Lin touches the heart in a way that no other book can. The main character Minli is beautiful, smart, and quick thinking. She lives in a village close to Fruitless Mountain. The story of how Fruitless Mountain came to be is magical, but that is something you will have to find out while reading the book. The timeline of the book is flamboyant as the author tells many stories about Chinese tall tales.
Even the amazing journey Minli takes to ask the old man of the moon is heart stopping. Along the way she meets new friends that changes her life greatly. And not because of the way they take care of her, because her friends turn out to be creatures such as an enormous dragon, twins that as she calls them dumplings, a vicious tiger that has an outstanding story of its own, a magical king of a mystical town, the man with all the gold fishes, an old man that happens to save her life, and last but the most important the Old Man of the Moon.
Where the Mountain Meets the Moon is one of my favorite books ever. The thrill and exhilaration it gives me as the main character goes through many life struggles and still has the drive to go on this journey and solve every one of them , and comes out with a different solution is life changing.
